MACA Coaching Women’s MX course at Oatlands TAS hailed a success

A fresh concept for the Motocross Advanced Coaching Academy (MACA Coaching) to encourage female participants has been hailed a success. The course, led by Glenn Macdonald and Australian Women’s motocross star Kristy Gillespie attracted a fully booked course at the Oatlands circuit in Tasmania on 2 February.

“We have run very successful women’s coaching programs in the past’ said Macdonald ‘and we were keen to provide a service again to female clientele.”

He went on to add “We decided to blend our course with male participants, but still provide an exclusive service hoping to encourage female riders to attend, whether it be with a partner, a sibling or on their own. Kristy Gillespie led the exclusive group of women, while I coached the male participants.”

The concept proved successful. The course was fully booked, even attracting a female participant from far north Queensland who flew to Tasmania and hired a bike to attend the course. Gillespie, a multiple state and national motocross champion has been an accredited coach for many years and enjoyed working with the chargers in Tasmania.

Gillespie said “It was a really good day. The track was excellent to work on and the girls were really receptive. Hopefully they can take some of my tips away from the course and be more confident in their riding and racing and stick with the sport they love.” MACA Coaching aims to conduct more courses with this concept in future, with several dates already in negotiations.
