Long & GMR Motorex KTM claim two class wins at Victorian State MX Championship

24/08/09

Dylan Long has collected two State Championships at the final round of the Victorian Junior Motocross Championships held at the sandy Rosebud circuit on 25 & 26 July 09. The in form charger took a clean sweep of all races in both the 85cc-150F, and 125-150cc classes over the course of the event to not only take two round wins, but also convincingly locked in two Championships in the process.

“I took the clean sweep of all my races at Rosebudand it was a great way to finish of the series,” said Long. “Race one on my KTM 150 SX was a highlight for me. I had a bad gate pick, and got a bad run into turn one. I was in about tenth in the opening stages, and really had to keep focused, and keep the passes happening.

“I was copping roost in my face from the bikes in front of me, but I quickly made my way through into the lead. I then had a moment when I tried to avoid a lapped rider, and I ran off the track. Second place moved into the lead which meant I had to work back up, and make another pass for the lead. I finally took the win, and it was just one of those really rewarding races.

“In the rest of my races I had much better starts, and I love riding the sand. It was also a great way for me to prepare for the Junior World Championships in a few weeks time.

“I am just so happy to have won two state titles with GMR Motorex KTM, and cannot thank my family and the team’s sponsors enough for all of their support. I was pumped when I received my two number one plates from the team to congratulate me, and I can’t wait to hang them on the wall at home.”

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald could not be any more proud of his young charger “I am extremely proud of Dylan, and his success so far this year,” said Macdonald. “To collect two state titles in one season is a great achievement, and I am certain that this is only the start of things to come for him.

“Dylan consistently put in super fast lap times throughout the series, and collected a number of round wins along the way and most importantly, he has kept safe, and is reaching his peak for the next cycle of major events.

“We are now focusing on the World Junior Championships to be held at Taupo in New Zealand in mid August, where we will see both Dylan and his team mate Jay Wilson contesting the 85cc class and after that, we regroup for the Australian Junior Nationals in September.”
